Cooling characteristics of a lithium‐ion battery module based on flat aluminum heat pipe by considering thermal radiation

Aiming at the thermal safety and inconsistency caused by high temperature of lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery, a cooling structure embedded with flat aluminum heat pipe (FAHP) for Li-ion battery module is proposed. The three-dimensional model FAHP established considering regionalized radiation. characteristics are compared four progressive schemes, performance affected different convection (hconv) radiation (hrad) transfer coefficients analyzed. Results show that, more precise than that without under natural convection. Adding FAHPs can effectively reduce maximum (Tmax) difference (ΔTmax,pack) module. Especially adding fins, even 3C discharging, average be improved 33.3%, 25.0%, 14.4% convection, plates sandwiched between cells no respectively. Meanwhile, decrease in rates Tmax ΔTmax,pack gradually increasing hrad, but decreased hconv. When 5 W·m−2·K−1 ≤ hconv 35 W·m−2·K−1, ratio dissipation to total (η) 35.7%, when > 55 η less 1.5%.
